How to catch a cars plates?
My house has been vandalized about 6 times in the last few weeks, all of which have varried from bad to worse (egging, to crap on porch to broken window) and they seem to just drive by the house in a car, i am lookin for a way to capture the liscense plate# at ngiht so most likley a camera with nightvision (<$100) i was thinking maybe a hunting camera with flash (with motion sensor) any ideas?
I guess the police are useless in your area. A hunting camera may not be fast enough and will surely load up fast if you have a lot of traffic. Using a video camera means you also need a recorder that is time lapse. Kind of expensive. X-10 used to have cameras and motion detectors that would activate the camera. The problem is you still need a time lapse recorder.
You might consider calling around to store supply companies to see if you can rent a manikin. Dress it up and put in a chair in plain site. let it hold an old camera you pick up cheap from a flea market. Change clothes on a regular basis and take in at times they are not known to come. Leave lights on so it can be seen. Sit with it when you can.
If you are afraid they will know the difference then you may want to set a trap for the time they try to vandalize it. Have motion detectors set to turn flood lights on and a siren to sound if they come close. Otherwise you are going to spend some sleepless nights.
