where can I buy a hunting rifle online?And is 30-30 a good deer rifle?
I want to buy a deer rifle for my husband for christmas, any ideas where? None of the local pawn shops have any.

There are a lot of gun sites (auctionarms.com, gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com) but the purchase of a gun can be a pretty personal choice. Would you let your husband buy you shoes over the internet? I would recommend going to a real gun store like Dick’s Sporting goods. Cabela’s, or Bass Pro Shops, or a local shooting range that sells guns (not a pawn shop) and let him try several guns to see which one fits him. Instead of picking out the gun, why not buy him a gift certificate from one of the stores, and let him make his own choice? Trust me, he’ll love the thought that you put into it, and if he picks out the gun, you don’t have to worry if he doesn’t like it.
By the way, a .30-30 is a great little deer gun. I shot my first deer with one at 13, and my most recent one at age 53. It has probably brought down more whitetail than any other caliber. But it does have its limitations. If your husband is planning to shoot long distances (over about 150 yards), he’ll need a more powerful, flatter shooting rifle.
In addition to the rifle, I would recommend that you also look into getting him a gift certificate from a local range so he can practice. You can find a local range at www.wheretoshoot.org.
One more thing – tell your husband to get you a good cookbook for preparing venison. Happy Holidays!
