One of my first jobs in Los Angeles was as a story analyst at a major production company. If you love to spend long nights and weekends reading and analysis of future success (and not-so-much-to-hits) from Hollywood, here's how to go after this fascinating, entertaining and, frankly excessive wear entry level concert.

WORK

As an analyst of history, is the time to read and summarize then analyze the sequences command for structural soundness, history, dialogue, character development, creativity and more. That's called covering generation, " and you do so at their creative executives (CES) in fairly tight deadlines.

PROCESS

When you apply for a job as a reader, will receive a sample script and asked to analyze, using the cover of the workforce of the company, in a given period of time, for free. Development Team the company will review its work to see if it meets your needs and then you can hire. Once you are hired, usually working as a freelancer, which are sent or pick up their "pile of weekend" script when they contact you. There are often scripted to cover during the week, too. You can read only a handful of scripts a week, in large companies, may have to analyze twenty or more per week.

PAY

Oh, pay is sooooooo looooooow for readers! Almost always they pay for each script, anywhere from $ 20 – $ 55 a script, usually. Given the time to invest is money, not much, but it's a great experience for writers and types of development aspire.

Acquire skills in their

Before you go after reading a job, be sure to have a deep knowledge of the structure the story! Take advantage of multiple classes, read several books, knowing the industry terminology and expectations. This is not only to help them get a job, is Also to be fair to the writers whose scripts are about to be responsible for the examination. As an analyst of history, you are a guardian for his production company, the first entry point for the writers trying to get his work done. That's a big responsibility. Trench is also a great training for writers who are interested in learning the buyers point of view of this business, as I discuss in detail in my book and seminars.

GETTING THE GIG

Next is the time to job search. Craig's List often ads in the "proceedings" in the region of Los Angeles. Just do a search general "reader" and "story analyst." Also, let your friends know you are looking for a concert of story analyst, and put a cool gift in the mix for people to get into the pool account!

Of course, reading assignments are notorious "insider information" concerts, delivered one analyst to the next, the best way to get one of these jobs is through a contact. If you know someone who does the coverage at this time, ask if you may file for consideration as a reader for your company. If they get you in to the sample coverage, terrible – sure to get a gift, whether it is hired or not.

BTW, for gifts, I love making coffee gift cards. I caffeine than half of Hollywood in the last twelve years.
