How do I get a job in LA during a short visit?
I will be visiting LA for a weekend in October – I currently live on the east coast but want to move to LA to work in film (behind the scenes, and yes, I have an applicable degree). This will be my first trip to Cali and I’m going to job hunt and basically make sure I like the place before I commit to moving there.
Problem is, before I can move to LA, I need to have a job lined up. And by job, I mean I am not above being a secretary or an assistant, Something to pay my bills, basically. I just don’t know how feasible it will be to find anything on the weekend and if anyone would be willing to hire someone who is in the process of moving.
Any tips on how I can land a job when I’m only visiting for a weekend? Places to check out? Thanks!
You need to job search like CRAZY (on like careerbuilder/monster/etc). Send your application and a cover letter. In the cover letter state that you are pursuing relocating upon acceptance of a full time position and that you are not seeking relocation assistance. (They won’t hire you if you want to be reimbursed for moving expenses.) Also state that you will be in the area these dates and available for an interview at that time. Send out as many as you can to try to land some interviews. There is no way you will get to speak to anyone out there without setting it up prior.
