Believe it or not sometimes the ocean is constantly moving above and below water. Below the surface water currents and waves are produced by winds over the sea surface. The gravity of the Earth also has a say in the waves and tides of the oceans, and pulling back and forth in a dance lunar big. Far below the surface of the ocean is another type of movement is called the Great Ocean Conveyor, or thermohaline circulation. Not many people know about of the conveyor, but it is alive and moving in the oceans of the world.

The Great Ocean Conveyor is not moving very fast, but add enough water to fill the Amazon River, at least a hundred times. Movement of the Great Ocean Conveyor was recorded at 10 inches per second and the amount of water that moves each second equals approximately thirty million cubic meters. With so much activity going on below the ocean why do not we realize that from above? The water in the ocean surface is heated by the sun in the Earth Ecuador. As this water flows upward to the higher latitudes, the heat gradually released into the atmosphere of Earth. When this hot water once it starts to cool gets thicker and heavier, causing it to drift into the ocean. It is this deep water in the ocean that circulates around and about, emerging on the surface of the ocean, somewhere in the world, many years later. The Great Ocean conveyor continues to move around until that the water rises and becomes warmer. The cold ocean water from the north end of the world sinks and becomes part of the Great Ocean Conveyor, only to emerge years later in a warmer climate. It is the great ocean conveyor that keeps water in the world in movement and mixture, keeping the earth healthy.
