are black squrels rare in iowa and how much to stuff one?
today me and my bro were squirrel hunting and he shot a black squirrel…we are in iowa is it rare… we’ve never seen any around here besides today but heard they are common south and east by the mississippi. and how much will it cost to stuff it? is is a male around 2 lbs
A black squirrel in America is usually a melanistic subgroup of the Eastern Grey Squirrel. They are most common in the Midwest, which includes Iowa. So no, in some places in Iowa they actually outnumber the grey squirrels. They might be more uncommon in your area but they are definitely not “rare”.
As for getting it mounted/stuffed, it just depends on the costs in your area. I live in Texas and getting a squirrel stuffed here costs about $150 – $250 depending on if you want it mounted on a log and if you want the mouth opened or closed.
