Like sports fans, who spend much time enjoying our favorite pastimes. We sat with friends in bars, living rooms, or in sports speaking of teams, players, and highlights. Here are some fun sports facts and trivia bits of sports in general to add to the next conversation.

FOOTBALL

Cy Young was credited to be the first pitcher in the modern era to throw a game perfect. In fact, the first professional baseball pitcher to do so was Lee Richmond on 12 June 1880 with the Worcester, Massachusetts.

The first black player included Hall of Fame was Jackie Robinson in 1962. The first woman to be elected was Effa Manley in 2006, not as a player but as a team owner / manager.

Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. played for the Seattle Mariners. They are the only father and son in the MLB players have beaten back-to-back homers in a game of MLB.

BASKETBALL

The Lakers have made the most appearances in the NBA Finals but have most NBA titles. You have 30 attempts, with 15 victories. The Celtics have the most wins with 17 in 20 appearances.

The lowest scoring game in NBA history was between the Pistons and the Lakers in 1950, 19 to 18 years.

One reason the NBA team New Jersey Nets, was appointed was because it rhymes with other local professional teams, the Mets and Jets.

HOCKEY

With 472 minutes sitting in the penalty box, Dave Schultz, also known as "The Hammer" has the record of minutes most penalty in a season.

Ron Hextall, playing for Philadelphia in 1987, was the first NHL goalie to score a goal during a match.

Fans hockey sports take towels to greet the referees for bad calls and hats to throw onto the ice if a player scores three goals in a game. In Detroit, fans may bring an octopus to throw on the ice, if the Red Wings to win in the playoffs.

Modern Olympic Games
